?Investigation Papers In Cases Involving Namewee Sent To AG's Chambers - Rais

CYBERJAYA, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said today that the investigation papers (IPs) relating to You Tube video postings by rapper Namewee had already been submiited to the Attorney-General's Chambers last week.

"The papers relate to several cases involving him including one on a school principal in Johor," he told reporters after attending an appreciation dinner for the organising committee of the 53rd Merdeka parade, at a hotel here.

He said that he was very confident that the Attorney-General would apply his wisdom in prosecution related to the cases.

"So it is out of our hands. The IPs have been completed and filed with the AG's Chambers," he said, adding that his ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had done their part on the matter and that the final decision on it lay with the AG.

"We do not expect this matter to bring about any implications but want the public to know that my ministry and the MCMC have done our part. Now we leave it to the AG to decide on the next course of action."

Asked about the launching of an album by the rapper yesterday, Rais said: "If he gives rise to new cases, the MCMC will open new investigations and the same process happens."

Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, 27, is alleged to have made seditious remarks in his You Tube video postings.

I am sure you know that fire cannot be put out using fire.  You have to find other alternative approach.  If this is your wat to gain popularity then you are being childish.  Please stand up and look to the west.  Artist are human being and they are never perfect.  They make mistakes and they apologise and work it form there to gain their fans' trust!  I am sure you have your fans.  Your songs are not bad except for those lyrics.  I am sure you can improve.  Please stop this childish act coz I am sure you enjoy being a big bully.  We hate racism and bullies!!!

KUALA LUMPUR - ABOUT 50 people, including members of Perkasa, turned up at the Chinese Assembly Hall in Jalan Maharajalela here to stage a protest against controversial rapper Wee Meng Chee or better known as Namewee. 

The group were seen gathering at the vicinity of the hall at 8.45pm yesterday, carrying Perkasa banners and Namewee's pictures that were later set on fire, while some hurled abusive words against the rapper who was launching his album in the hall.

About 100 policemen, including the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) from Dang Wangi arrived to ensure peace and safety at 8pm. 

Wira Perkasa Malaysia head Arman Azha Abu Hanifah who headed the gathering was seen trying to make his way into the hall by negotiating with the police but he was prevented from entering.

The group later wanted the police to call Namewee out of the hall but police did not heed their request. 

Arman Azhar later told reporters that the gathering was to protest against Namewee who he claimed had disgraced the nation. -- THE STAR/ANN
