KUCHING: Special Adviser in the Chief Minister’s Department Tan Sri Adenan Satem will take up a new post in the state Cabinet as Special Functions Minister.
Adenan, the Tanjung Datu assemblyman, was sworn into office at the Astana here yesterday.
He took his oath in front of Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng.
His appointment comes a week before the start of the State Legislative Assembly sitting and brings to 10 the number of full ministers in the Cabinet.
Adenan, 67, was last in the state Cabinet as Agriculture and Food Industries Minister, a post he held from 1998 to 2004.
Prior to that, he was Social Development Minister from Sept 1992 to Jan 1998, Land Development Minister from March 1987 to Sept 1992 and Assistant Land Development Minister from 1985 to 1987.
He was appointed to the Federal Cabinet as Natural Resources and Environment Minister from March 2004 to Feb 2006. In April last year, he was appointed as Special Adviser in the Chief Minister’s Department.
A lawyer by training, Adenan is married with five children and lists golfing, fishing, reading, singing and writing among his hobbies.
The other members of the Cabinet are Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Datuk Seri Michael Manyin, Tan Sri Dr James Masing, Tan Sri William Mawan, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh and Datin Fatimah Abdullah.
Taib was sworn in on the night of the April 16 state election and the rest two days later.
They were all retained from the previous state Cabinet.
In addition, 12 assistant ministers who were re-elected in the polls were reappointed to the Cabinet and sworn in early last month.
